The Palacete Manuelino, also known as Casa do Relógio (Clock House) or Casa Neomanuelina (Neo-Manueline House), is located at Avenida do Brasil, number 777, in Nevogilde, a pleasant coastal area of the city of Porto. Its location grants it prominent visibility in a distinct urban environment, along the Atlantic front.
Built in 1907, this mansion was designed by the architect Arnaldo Adolfo de Vasconcelos, and its construction was undertaken by Artur Jorge Guimarães. The work is part of the Romantic and Revivalist period of the early 20th century, notably adopting the Neo-Manueline style.
This architectural movement reinterprets elements of the original Manueline style, distinguished by its detailed ornamentation and use of motifs inspired by nautical themes and nature, giving the building a unique visual character.
The grandeur of the Palacete Manuelino, with its exquisite architectural details, remains evident and visible from the outside, inviting close observation. Although it is currently in a state of disrepair, its structure and ornamentation continue to testify to the grandeur and aesthetic refinement of the era in which it was built.
The historical and cultural value of the Palacete Manuelino was once nationally recognized, with the building having been classified as a Property of Public Interest. Although this classification was revoked in 2008, its significance as an example of Neo-Manueline architecture and its presence in the urban landscape of Porto are undeniable.
