Located in the Serralves area, this park represents a vast green space within Porto's urban context. It offers an area of tranquility, like a natural refuge within the city, surrounded by the House and Museum that are part of the Serralves Foundation.
The conception of Serralves Park dates back to the 1930s, when the then owner, Carlos Alberto Cabral, commissioned the French landscape architect Jacques Gréber to design it. The result is a work that integrates pre-existing elements from the old estate with a new style, influenced by French classicism and Art Deco touches, creating a collection of remarkable historical and artistic value within Portuguese landscape heritage.
Spanning 18 hectares, the park hosts an impressive variety of plant species. Visitors can explore different environments, from the carefully planned formal gardens next to the House, to denser woodland areas and the surroundings of a serene lake. This natural heritage includes thousands of plant specimens, with many native and exotic species, providing rich contact with biodiversity.
Beyond its natural and landscape beauty, the park also serves as a setting for a permanent exhibition of sculptures. As visitors stroll along its paths and clearings, they encounter various works from the Serralves Foundation's collection, which blend harmoniously into the landscape, combining contemporary art with the natural environment.
An interesting addition to the park is the elevated walkway, known as the Treetop Walk. This structure allows visitors to walk at canopy level, offering a unique viewpoint of the fauna and flora inhabiting this upper layer. It's a different way to experience the park and observe Serralves' natural life from another height.
Serralves Park invites moments of pause and exploration. With its varied paths and environments, it is an ideal place for a tranquil stroll, away from the city's fast pace. The combination of formal and natural spaces provides a relaxing and enriching experience, appealing to different sensibilities.
