The Serralves Foundation is one of Portugal's most important cultural institutions. It stands out for integrating a Museum of Contemporary Art, a notable Art Deco style House, and an extensive Park.
The museum building was designed by the renowned Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira and is itself a world-reference architectural work. It is the main space for viewing modern and contemporary art exhibitions, with temporary shows featuring works by Portuguese and international artists.
This was the original residence of the property, built in the 1930s. It is a beautiful example of Art Deco architecture. Although not the main space for major exhibitions, the House often hosts art installations, special projects, or serves as a setting for cultural events, maintaining its historical charm.
The park is an essential part of the Serralves experience. With over 18 hectares, it offers a wide variety of landscape environments, from well-maintained formal gardens to more wild and forested areas. It is ideal for a quiet stroll, discovering sculptures scattered throughout the space, and enjoying nature. One of the most popular spots is the Treetop Walk (Casa da Árvore), an elevated walkway that allows visitors to walk among the treetops and enjoy different views of the park.
Visiting Serralves is more than just going to a museum; it is an immersion in art, architecture, and nature. It is a place to spend several hours, explore the different spaces, relax, and enjoy a unique environment in the city of Porto.
