Monte Clérigo Beach is located on the western coast of the Algarve, in the municipality of Aljezur. It is part of the protected landscape of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, situated next to the small village that shares its name. The beach faces northwest.
The cliffs to the north and south offer wide and panoramic views over the extensive sandy beach and the surrounding landscape. A vast dune field stretches between the built-up area and the beach.
Monte Clérigo Beach features an extensive stretch of sand, especially on its northern side. At the southern end, the landscape transforms with the presence of rock formations that are revealed at low tide. The sand is fine and golden-toned.
At low tide, the rocky area at the southern end of the beach reveals many natural pools among the rocks. This is an excellent spot to observe the diverse marine life that inhabits the area, such as crabs, starfish, shrimp, limpets, and small schools of fish.
On certain occasions, low tide can lead to the formation of a small lagoon on the sandy beach. Although it is generally a peaceful spot, it is wise to be aware of the possible presence of weaver fish in these warmer, shallow waters.
Monte Clérigo Beach is a popular spot for families, especially when low tide creates natural pools in the rocky area, safe for children. The water is clear, though generally cool.
It is also recognized as a good spot for surfing and bodyboarding, attracting visitors looking for its waves. For those who prefer to swim, the sea offers more favorable conditions on days with low swell. It is essential to be aware of the currents, which may be present offshore.
Monte Clérigo Beach flies the Blue Flag, an acknowledgment of its environmental quality and the safety it offers. During the bathing season, the presence of lifeguards contributes to the tranquility of visitors in the swimming area.
The beach provides access that facilitates the arrival of people with reduced mobility to the sandy area.
