Situated on the coast of Aljezur, in the heart of the Vicentine Coast, Praia das Adegas is a secluded cove south of the main sandy area. It is located in the town of Odeceixe. Its location, nestled between cliffs, gives it a sheltered character. Access is via a trail leading to a steep wooden staircase, built over the old ravine descent. This access feature makes it less suitable for people with mobility difficulties. From the top of the cliffs, before descending, it is possible to appreciate the surrounding landscape. On the beach itself, one can observe the dark rocks of the cliffs, punctuated by white veins in relief, and a peculiar opening in the rock to the north that functions as a natural frame. At the base of the southern cliff, there is a pebble bank.
With a medium-sized sandy area, Praia das Adegas sees its sand strip significantly reduce when the tide is high. The surrounding cliffs offer some natural shelter from the wind. The sea waters in this area of the Vicentine Coast usually have strong waves and currents, requiring attention. During low tide, the scenery transforms, allowing exploration of an adjacent cove where a larger cave and various tidal pools formed between the rocks can be discovered, elements that invite observation and photography.
Praia das Adegas is officially recognized for the practice of naturism, having been one of the first in Portugal to receive this legal status in 2004. It is considered a benchmark for naturism in the Algarve region. During peak months, particularly in summer, the beach attracts visitors from diverse backgrounds, including couples, families, and individuals, who seek this environment. This mix of visitors contributes to a particular atmosphere on the sand, marked by the freedom of naturist practice. A sign at the access point indicates the beach's official status.
When visiting Praia das Adegas, it is important to consider some aspects related to safety. There is no lifeguard supervision, so swimming or diving requires caution, especially considering that the sea can be rough and have strong currents. It is also advisable to maintain a safe distance from the base of the cliffs that border the sandy area, due to the potential risk of rockfalls. The access, via a steep staircase, requires some attention.
