These houses reflect the tranquility and cultural atmosphere of that era.
The facades feature detailed work in stone and iron, creating a visual harmony, even with the diversity of styles.
Among the houses, there are examples of Romantic, Art Nouveau, and revivalist architecture, some with the appearance of "chalets."
Situated between Rua de Santa Anastácia and the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Lapa, the ensemble faces the Jardim do Passeio Alegre, a landscaped garden that adds a calm and pleasant atmosphere to the location.
Many of the houses are clad in tiles and have granite frames on the windows, typical of the architecture of the era. Iron elements, such as balcony supports, are also visible.
One of the most relevant buildings in this ensemble is the former residence of Eugénio de Andrade, now transformed into a cultural foundation.
These houses have been classified as properties of municipal interest since 1984, reinforcing their heritage importance in the city of Porto.
The ensemble of properties has a privileged location, facing the Douro River and with a view of Cabedelo, in Vila Nova de Gaia, and the Atlantic Ocean.
