The Main Church was built in the 17th century. Some believe that before this one, a temple existed in the same location, although this has not been confirmed.
Located on a high point of the old village of Azóia, the church is easily visible.
The building has a sober and robust facade, with straight lines and a prominent bell tower. The church has a single nave, with two side chapels that are supported by pilasters.
The portal is adorned by a curved, interrupted pediment. Above it, there is a window larger than the side ones.
The church has undergone several improvements, but the south tower is incomplete, missing a floor. The original pediment was not rebuilt.
The interior is impressive, with a nave covered by a barrel vault. The walls have two floors, separated by a string course, and windows in all sections.
The exterior pilasters have correspondence in the interior ones, forming perfect round arches. The choir is supported by a segmental arch.
The side chapels and the two pillars suggest the traditional transept of Christian temples of the Middle Ages, making this space unique.
