The Santa Iria da Azóia Urban Park is located in the town of Santa Iria da Azóia, in the municipality of Loures, specifically in the Granja area. This green space is situated in an area that serves as a transition between the rural environment and the urban periphery, and its elevation provides comprehensive views. From there, it is possible to observe the Tagus estuary and the south bank, with the gaze extending to the northern and western areas of the surrounding landscape.

A Verdant Transformation

With an area of approximately 26 hectares, this park represents a remarkable example of environmental rehabilitation. The site where this leisure and social space now extends operated as a sanitary landfill between 1988 and 1996. After its sealing, the land was recovered and transformed into a public park, inaugurated in the year 2000. This intervention allowed for the conversion of a former use into something entirely new, dedicated to well-being and nature.

The Santa Iria da Azóia Urban Park offers a wide range of facilities and spaces for various activities. For sports enthusiasts, there are cycle paths and a running track for informal practice, as well as a fitness circuit and a dedicated area for BTT. Younger visitors and those seeking challenges can have fun in the children's playground, with its slide and half-pipe, or try the paragliding slope. The park also features an outdoor amphitheater, ideal for cultural events, and a picnic area, inviting moments of conviviality. Accessibility is a concern, with the space being adapted for people with reduced mobility.

In addition to leisure and sports options, the park stands out for its focus on sustainability and environmental education. It houses a Renewable Energy Thematic Park, which demonstrates the practical operation of these technologies. This green space is also conducive to species observation, given its size and the diversity of habitats created during its rehabilitation. The park also includes a traffic school, contributing to civic education, and various rest areas, allowing visitors to appreciate the tranquility of the natural environment.
