The Bucelas Wine and Vine Museum is located in the town of Bucelas, municipality of Loures, specifically in the area known as Bairro Solcasa. This location is part of a region recognized for its viticultural tradition, which, despite its proximity to the Lisbon metropolitan area, still maintains a visible connection to rurality and the land. The museum is housed in a building that, before being rehabilitated for its current function, had a residential purpose, integrating naturally into the local urban fabric.
Inaugurated in 2013, the Bucelas Wine and Vine Museum is a space dedicated to unraveling the history and culture of the wine that defines this part of the municipality of Loures. The building that houses it has a historical connection with local viticulture, and the museum's central purpose is the preservation and dissemination of the collective memory associated with the region's wine production. One of its main focuses is the Arinto grape variety, the grape variety that is the base of Bucelas' characteristic wine, a region with official demarcation since 1911.
Inside the museum, visitors will find three distinct exhibition areas, designed to offer a comprehensive understanding of the world of Bucelas wine. A permanent section allows exploration of the region's particularities, traditional production technologies, and ancient vineyard working methods. Additionally, an interactive space, enriched with multimedia elements, illustrates the various phases of winemaking and the care dedicated to the vineyard throughout the year. To complement this journey, a mezzanine hosts temporary exhibitions, always addressing themes related to the world and culture of wine.
The Wine and Vine Museum also integrates the Camilo Alves Documentation Centre, a specialized archive. This knowledge hub is dedicated to wine-related themes and, in particular, to the history of the Peninsular Wars. With a significant documentary and bibliographic collection, the centre serves as a resource for those seeking to deepen studies in enology, viticulture, local and regional history, as well as the historical events involving the Lines of Torres. This space contributes to the museum's mission as a reference point for research and study in these areas.
The Bucelas Wine and Vine Museum acts as a link between the past and present of the region's viticultural tradition. Its work aims to value the tangible and intangible heritage of Bucelas, establishing a strong connection with the community that, over generations, has shaped this legacy. The museum's commitment is recognized through distinctions, such as the honorable mention from the Portuguese Museology Association (APOM) in 2014 and the award from the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities in 2019.
