The Quinta Pedagógica dos Olivais (Olivais Educational Farm) presents itself as an authentic embassy of the rural world, located in the heart of Lisbon. With an area of two hectares, this space invites immersion in country life, providing an experience different from urban daily life. It is a place designed for conviviality and the rediscovery of agricultural and livestock traditions, a true portal to countryside tranquility.
The heart of the farm is inhabited by a variety of farm animals, living in enclosures, stables, and meadows, allowing visitors close observation of rural life. It is possible to find horses, cows, goats, sheep, pigs, and donkeys, as well as birds such as chickens, geese, and ducks. The space also hosts ornamental birds, including parakeets, pheasants, quails, and peacocks, enriching the experience with the diversity of animal life.
The Quinta Pedagógica dos Olivais is organized into various spaces dedicated to learning and leisure. Highlights include its "Kitchens," which comprise a bakery, confectionery, and cheesemaking room, where traditional food processing techniques are explored. It features a Vegetable Garden and Orchard that reveal cultivation cycles, a Garden of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants for the discovery of the scents and uses of flora, and a greenhouse that showcases cultivation techniques. There are also workshops, which invite participation in activities linked to rural traditions, and meadows, ideal for a relaxing stroll.
Inaugurated in 1996 and managed by the Lisbon City Council, the Quinta Pedagógica dos Olivais was created with the purpose of keeping rural traditions alive in an urban context.
