The Pocinho River Port is situated in the locality of Pocinho, an integral part of the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa. It is located on the banks of the Douro River, next to the dam of the same name, and offers a privileged perspective of the region's imposing wine landscape. Its position allows for the observation of the confluence of the Côa River with the Douro, in a setting that reflects the uniqueness of the Alto Douro Wine Region.
This quay has a relevant historical connection to the navigability of the Douro River. Prior to the construction of the dam that now marks the landscape, the site was a significant crossing point. A road and rail bridge, which ensured the crossing and transport, was once located here. Although it is now inactive, its presence attests to the strategic importance of the River Port over time. The space thus reflects the evolution of man's relationship with this great river.
Anchored at the Pocinho River Port is the vessel “Senhora da Veiga”, a replica of the historic rabelo boats. These vessels, once essential for transporting the barrels of Douro wine to the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, are a strong symbol of Douro tradition and identity. Their presence at the port serves as a tribute to this riverine legacy and allows for a deeper appreciation of the region's cultural context. The reservoir formed by the dam, which extends from the port, offers an environment of calm waters, conducive to contemplating the surrounding nature and for practicing light nautical activities.
