Caneiros Beach is located in the Azinhaga area, part of the town of Ferragudo, in the municipality of Lagoa. This beach is nestled between coastal cliffs. Access is usually via stairs, as the sandy area is secluded from the arrival point.

From the adjacent promontory, it is possible to get a more comprehensive view of the coastline.

The Sand and the Sea

The beach features a considerably sized golden sand area. It is flanked by rock formations and cliffs. The waters are generally calm, providing good conditions for swimming and snorkeling. The quality of the water and the sand are recognized, with the beach boasting the Blue Flag award.

On the eastern side of the sandy area, there are rocks resulting from ancient landslides. At high tide, natural pools sometimes form among these rocks. It is recommended to maintain a safe distance from the cliffs due to the risk of collapse.

Leixão da Gaivota

One of the most distinctive elements of the landscape is a large isolated rock in the sea, located about 200 meters from the coast. It is known as Leixão da Gaivota. This rock has significant ecological value, serving as a habitat and nesting site for seabirds, and is therefore protected.

Ponta do Altar Lighthouse

On the promontory to the west of the beach, the Ponta do Altar Lighthouse stands out. This landmark in the coastal landscape dates back to 1893. Although the interior of the lighthouse is not accessible, it is possible to walk around the promontory area to observe the structure and enjoy panoramic views of the coastline.

A Tranquil Atmosphere

Caneiros Beach offers an atmosphere that invites rest and appreciation of nature. Although it can be frequented, it maintains an ambiance that allows visitors to enjoy the beauty of the cliffs and the sea in a scenic natural setting. It is a pleasant place to relax, especially at the end of the day.
