Slide and Splash

Category: Culture and Entertainment > Theme Park

District: Faro > Lagoa > Estômbar

Location

Situated in Estômbar, in the municipality of Lagoa, Slide and Splash occupies a large, landscaped area in the Algarve's barrocal region. The park develops around a central hill, with circulation paths that circle the hill, allowing access to the slides from different sides.

The setting is essentially scenic and open, featuring extensive lawns, palm trees, and rest areas. From the highest points of the towers, one can observe the surrounding rural landscape, marked by orange groves and pine forests typical of the region.

Origin and evolution

Inaugurated on June 10, 1986, the park grew in phases, maintaining continuous operation for over three decades. Historical additions include the Kamikaze in the 1990s, funnels, and enclosed tunnels like the Black Hole and the Blue Hole, as well as specific areas for children.

Between 2017 and 2019, several slides were renovated with new colors and light effects. In 2022, an expansion area opened with a tower dedicated to three recent rides: Race, Boomerang, and Big Fall, which reinforced the offering of fast and steep descents.

Park Experience

The current map highlights a dense network of slides with distinct profiles. There are enclosed and dark rides like the Black Hole, tunnels with light games in the Blue Hole, and vertical drops like the Big Fall and the Kamikaze. Raft structures offer wide curves and changes in pace, such as the Tornado and the Disco River. For those who prefer controlled thrills, the Race tracks allow sliding side-by-side on a mat. The Boomerang creates a half-pipe effect, with an ascent and return on the same ramp.

Calm water areas include the large Laguna pool and the Jacuzzi. For children, there are themed areas with foam slides and play structures, such as the Tropical Paradise and the Gentle Slides (Pistas Brandas), with reduced depths and interactive elements. Along the pedestrian paths, there are currents of running water close to the ground that help cool feet on hot days.

Conditions and Safety

The park is signposted with height restrictions on various attractions and specific instructions for visitors with physical limitations. Lifeguard stations and first-aid areas equipped with defibrillators are located at various points. The use of metallic objects, protruding accessories, and footwear on the slides is restricted for safety reasons.

There are grassy areas and spaces with artificial shade for breaks between rides, in addition to lockers for storing belongings. Some attractions operate with individual or double rafts and may require a minimum number of participants. Reading the map and the signage at the entrance of each slide helps in choosing rides suitable for age and height.
