Praia do Torrado, sometimes referred to as Praia do Vale da Azinhaga, is located on the coastal area of Ferragudo, in the municipality of Lagoa. It is nestled among imposing rock formations, facing the Atlantic Ocean.
Access to this sandy beach is usually gained by walking along the sand from the neighbouring beach, located further to the east. To the west, it is possible to spot the Ponta do Altar promontory, at the top of which stands the lighthouse of the same name.
This beach features a reasonably sized sandy area, framed by the cliffs that characterise much of the Algarve coast. These geological formations create a visually interesting backdrop and provide a natural setting for the bathing area.
The maritime landscape near the sandy area is enriched by rocks emerging from the water. One of them is closer to the coast, while another, larger one, known as Leixão da Gaivota, is located about 170 meters from the beach, dotting the marine horizon.
Praia do Torrado stands out for its tranquil atmosphere and secluded character. Away from busier areas, it offers a refuge for those seeking a calmer place to enjoy the beach.
The combination of the sandy beach with the cliffs and the view over the sea, dotted with rock formations, contributes to creating a serene environment, conducive to relaxation and contemplation of the surrounding nature.
The cliffs surrounding Praia do Torrado and the surrounding area hold a certain historical interest. There are indications of ancient human presence in the coastal region, with traces suggesting occupation by past civilisations.
Although subtle, these historical elements add an extra dimension to the visit, allowing one to imagine the long history and transformations that this stretch of coast has witnessed over the centuries.
