Praia da Zimbreirinha is nestled in a small cove in the Pontal da Carrapateira area, in the municipality of Aljezur. Access to this location is via a staircase built into the cliff.
This beach is part of the coast of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, set in a natural landscape dominated by rocky cliffs and the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean that bathes this part of the Portuguese coast.
Once known as Portinho da Zimbreirinha, this cove played an important role for the fishing community of Carrapateira village until the final years of the first decade of the 21st century. It was here that fishermen kept their boats, raising them up the escarpment on wooden structures locally called "Estromas".
This use as a small harbour ended in early 2010, after damage caused by bad weather led to the prohibition of the site for this activity. Although its original function no longer exists, the memory of this fishing past remains linked to the beach's identity.
Praia da Zimbreirinha stands out for its more secluded nature. It is a small cove, characterized by a sandy area composed mainly of pebbles and stones. The natural surroundings are marked by imposing cliffs that embrace the small sandy stretch.
The view from the top of the cliffs, before descending the staircase, allows one to appreciate the shape of the cove, the contrast between the blue of the sea and the colours of the rock and coastal vegetation. It is a setting that invites observation of the power of nature and the uniqueness of this coastline.
For those seeking a refuge away from busier areas, Praia da Zimbreirinha offers an environment of remarkable tranquillity. Being a more secluded beach with specific access via the staircase, it maintains a calmer atmosphere.
It is a suitable place for moments of pause, to be by the sea in a serene way, to listen to the sound of the waves, or simply to appreciate the surrounding landscape. The stony nature of the sand and the size of the cove contribute to this feeling of peaceful isolation.
