Located in Estômbar, in the municipality of Lagoa, this museum is linked to one of the region's oldest cultural traditions.
Founded on April 18, 1964, the Rancho Folclórico do Calvário (Calvário Folklore Group) was born to preserve the customs and traditions of the rural and fishing population of the Algarve.
With over 60 years of continuous activity, the group is one of the most important representatives of Algarve folklore, keeping alive typical dances, songs, and costumes from the mountains and the coast.
The group performed publicly for the first time in the same month it was founded, in the neighboring locality of Mexilhoeira da Carregação.
In 2018, a monument was erected next to the Calvário Urban Park in honor of the group, representing three couples dancing the corridinho, a strong symbol of local culture.
The Group's Museum allows a closer look at the costumes, instruments, photographs, and other objects linked to folklore and traditional Algarve life.
Henrique Alberto, involved from the beginning, is a central figure in the group's history, having been honored in 2016 for his dedication.
Visitors highlight the friendliness with which they are received, making it an ideal place to discover Algarve popular culture in a family-friendly environment.
Member of the Portuguese Folklore Federation since 1979, strengthening its link to the country's intangible heritage.
A recommended space for families or groups who wish to genuinely experience the traditions of southern Portugal.
