Erected on a slight hill in the center of Guia, the church marks the meeting point of two narrow streets and opens onto a churchyard bounded by a low stone wall. Seven steps connect the pavement to the front courtyard, creating a small urban balcony where mild shade can be enjoyed on summer evenings.
The surroundings maintain the traditional layout of the village, with whitewashed houses and chimneys characteristic of the Algarve. The elevated position allows a glimpse of some of the village's rooftops, in a soft contrast between the white of the facades and the blue of the sky.
The temple's roots date back to the 17th century, when the primitive chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Visitação was established. In the 18th century, the main altarpiece gained prominence, housing the image of the patron saint, sculpted in polychrome wood.
Among the interior treasures are the sculptures of Santo António and Christ Crucified, both from the 17th century, as well as the sculptures of Nossa Senhora do Rosário and Nossa Senhora das Dores, dating from the 18th century. The azulejo panels that cover part of the south facade recall the Algarve's ceramic tradition and add color to the exterior space.
The longitudinal nave plan combines stepped volumes: the rectangular nave is joined by the bell tower, choir loft, and side chapels, creating varied rhythms of height and covering in two slopes and a dome. The west facade, with pilasters and cornices, is pierced by a straight lintel portal in stonework, topped by a large oculus.
Inside, the masseira ceiling illuminates the single nave, while the perfect round triumphal arch discreetly separates the chancel. The gilded wood carved altarpiece, with a ribbed vault, creates a focal point of great serenity. Around it, chapels and the sacristy complete a harmonious ensemble, where the contrast between stone and wood conveys an atmosphere of contemplation.
