Salgados Beach is located in the municipality of Albufeira, in the Algarve, within the Vale Rabelho area, near the locality of Guia. It marks the westernmost point of the beaches in this Algarve municipality.
Its location is particularly notable for bordering the Salgados Lagoon, an important wetland area, and for being flanked by a vast green area that includes a golf course, giving it a unique landscape setting and an environment more connected to nature.
One of the most distinctive aspects of Salgados Beach is its connection to a significant coastal freshwater wetland, the Salgados Lagoon. This lagoon is considered one of the most important in southern Portugal and stands out as the only wetland in the municipality of Albufeira, representing an ecosystem of great natural value.
The lagoon constitutes an essential refuge for local and migratory birdlife. It is a privileged spot for birdwatching, where it's possible to spot about two hundred different species throughout the year, including ducks, flamingos, and some rare or endangered species. The lagoon is also an important nesting area.
The sandy beach of Salgados Beach is remarkably wide and invites long strolls along the seashore. It is characterized by its fine, golden sand, typical of the Algarve region.
Due to its considerable length, the beach offers plenty of space, even during peak season. During the bathing season, the waters near the sands are usually calm and of good quality, making them suitable for swimming.
In addition to enjoying the sand and the sea, visitors have the opportunity to explore the beach's natural surroundings via walkways. These elevated paths wind along the dune area that separates the beach from the Salgados Lagoon.
The walkways allow for comfortable strolling over the coastal vegetation, bringing visitors closer to the lagoon's landscape and facilitating the observation of local fauna and flora without disturbing the ecosystem. They provide a peaceful and accessible way to appreciate this unique natural environment.
