The Convent of São Francisco, also known as the Convent of Praxel, is located in the locality of Calvário, in the parish of Estômbar, in the municipality of Lagoa, district of Faro, in Portugal.
Built in the early 17th century by Diogo Vieira Boyo, the convent was donated to the Order of Friars Minor, although it could only accommodate six friars.
During the 18th century, the Convent of São Francisco became a privileged place for the burial of some illustrious figures from the region.
The convent has been in ruins since 1755, but some walls and the church can still be observed. The church has a longitudinal plan, a square chancel and side chapels. One of the side chapels has stairs leading to catacombs where some mural paintings can be appreciated.
Currently, we can identify the existence of a cloister built over a courtyard with a cistern, probably earlier. There are vestiges of a possible lateral cloister and parts of the walls of the buildings that surrounded it are still present.
