- Erected during the reign of King Manuel I, in the early 16th century.
- Originally located in front of the old Royal Palace of King Dinis, now the Pousada da Rainha Santa Isabel, it was moved to the Santo André square in 1698, in front of the old Town Hall.
- Between 1867 and 1871, the pillory was removed and disappeared, its whereabouts unknown.
- The pillory was rebuilt in 1916 by Saavedra Machado and Luís Chaves, remaining in its current location.
- It preserves original elements, such as the shaft, the capital, and the finishing pinnacle, typical examples of the Manueline style.
- Considered an important historical and architectural symbol, reflecting the cultural richness of the region.
