The Palacete Vieira da Silva is located in the city of Estremoz, within the Santo André area. Built in the first decade of the 20th century, it was one of the first, if not the first, property to make its presence felt on what was then Avenida da Estação, today known as Avenida 9 de Abril. Its location allows visitors to perceive the urban growth of Estremoz at the beginning of the last century, integrating harmoniously into the city's fabric.
This palacete was commissioned and inhabited by the physician João Lopes Nunes Vieira da Silva, together with his wife Elisa Carmen Reynolds Graça Zagallo. Conceived as a family residence, it reflects the taste and social standing of its builders at the beginning of the 20th century. The building is, therefore, a testament to the bourgeois life and housing habits of the era, preserving the memory of a family that marked local history.
The Palacete Vieira da Silva stands out for its Art Nouveau architecture, an artistic style that flourished between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Those who observe the building can appreciate the richness of the details that characterize this style. The elaborate ironwork, the tiles with nature-inspired motifs, and the meticulous decoration of the windows and doors are elements that reveal the attention to detail and the organic expressiveness typical of Art Nouveau. These elements give the palacete a singular character, distinguishing it in the architectural landscape of Estremoz and the Alentejo.
