Marte, the Estremoz Centre for Science, is housed within part of the historic Convento da Trindade, a building that harmoniously integrates into the urban fabric of the city of Estremoz. This singular location offers a setting where the profound historical and heritage value of the past dialogues with scientific exploration and future discovery, in the heart of Alentejo.
The main focus of this science centre is the exploration of our planet Earth. Through a set of interactive exhibitions, visitors are invited to discover how the Earth was formed, its evolution over time, and the phenomena that characterize it. It is possible to understand the external energies that influence it, such as solar energy, and the internal energies that cause earthquakes and volcanoes, in an engaging and dynamic learning journey.
To deepen the understanding of complex scientific concepts, the Centre presents modules and models that illustrate them. Of particular note are large-scale representations, such as a solar system designed to the scale of the municipality of Estremoz, which offers a unique perspective on our place in the cosmos and the vast distances that separate us from the stars.
Additionally, a section is dedicated to the marbles of Alentejo, explaining their geological formation and their profound importance to the region. This area bridges global science with local natural and economic heritage, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty and relevance of a resource that shapes the landscape and identity of Estremoz.
