The Ethnographic Museum is located in the picturesque village of Meda de Mouros, a locality within the municipality of Tábua, situated in the North Interior Pinhal region. Its location in the heart of this community offers a genuine atmosphere, allowing visitors to feel the pulse of a still present and authentic rural life.
This museum is dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of local ethnographic heritage. Its collection is the result of a careful gathering of utensils and artefacts that were part of the daily lives of the village inhabitants. The exhibition focuses on ancient agricultural practices and other traditional activities that, over time, have fallen into disuse, such as, for example, the entire process of cultivating and processing flax, which was fundamental to the region's economy and culture.
Beyond its permanent collection, the museum distinguishes itself by going beyond the simple exhibition of objects. It regularly promotes events that revive the ancient rural world. These include demonstrations of practices such as "corn husking" (descamisadas do milho) and "flax evenings" (serões ligados ao linho), which transport visitors to the past through interactive and authentic activities. These occasions are often enriched by the presence of traditional music and folklore, providing a vibrant cultural immersion.
The creation and maintenance of the Meda de Mouros Ethnographic Museum are the result of the initiative and commitment of the Meda de Mouros Improvement Commission. This particularity underscores the deeply communal nature of the museum, which is not just an exhibition space, but a living project of the village, dedicated to safeguarding local memories and identity for future generations.
