History

- Percelada was an important village, belonging to the cenobium of Santa Cruz de Coimbra and, later, to the University of Coimbra.

- No specific charter is known, but it may have been included in the charter of Lagos da Beira, granted by D. Manuel in 1514.

- The municipality was extinguished in 1836, later integrating into the parish of Covas.

Architecture

- The pillory is in Manueline style, but with a simple design.

- Located in a small square, it consists of three quadrangular steps, worn by time.

- The base of the column is simple, fitting into a plinth with an inclined upper face.

- The column has a quadrangular section with moldings at the corners, ending with a cubic capital.

- Decorated with small concave buttons in the corners, as the only decorative element.

- The top of the column is adorned by a smooth cone with four pear-shaped protrusions.

- At the top of the cone, there is a Latin cross in iron, with arms slightly enlarged at the ends.

Curiosities

- The name Percelada may derive from "Pedra Selada" (Sealed Stone).

- Although it does not have its own charter, the presence of the pillory suggests a historical administrative importance.
