The Chapel of Casa de Prazias is located in the tranquil area of Ansara, which is part of the village of Ventosa, in the municipality of Vouzela. This private chapel is harmoniously linked to an old rural manor, providing a serene setting characteristic of the Beira landscape, inviting a moment of contemplation.
The history of the Chapel of Casa de Prazias dates back to the 18th century, established as a complement to Casa de Prazias, a manor whose original foundations date back to 1725. The chapel itself was commissioned in 1782 by João Pinto Azevedo Alcoforado Girão, consecrated to Saint John the Baptist and blessed in the same year. Its patrimonial and cultural value is recognized through the process of classification as a Property of Public Interest, initiated in the late 20th century.
The architecture of the Chapel of Casa de Prazias reflects an interesting fusion of styles, with elements of Mannerist foundation combined with Baroque touches. Its exterior lines, though sober, culminate in a main portal of remarkable beauty, marked by a curvilinear pediment, enriched with volutes and spherical pinnacles topped with floral bowls. Natural light penetrates the interior through an elegant quatrefoil oculus.
Inside, the main altar stands out, displaying a Rococo carved altarpiece. This piece of sacred art is particularly appreciated for its marbled carving, which combines blue and gold tones. The composition includes pilasters and panels with rich vegetal motifs, rosettes and stylized volutes, culminating in a unique simulated curtain that frames a representation of the Calvary.
