Located in Colo do Pito, an area that is part of the village of Monteiras, in the municipality of Castro Daire, the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Ouvida is set within a mountain landscape. Its position offers a natural setting, characteristic of the region's rugged surroundings, providing an atmosphere of tranquility for its visitors.

Historical and Artistic Value

The construction of the sanctuary reveals an architecture of simple and unadorned lines. Inside, a small altar dating from the 18th century stands out, lending a touch of antiquity to the space. One of the most notable elements is the image of Our Lady with the Child in her lap, sculpted in polychrome limestone. This piece, attributed to the stonemasons of Coimbra from the 15th century, is a testament to the long history of devotion to Nossa Senhora da Ouvida at this site.

Tradition and Annual Celebration

Every year, on August 3rd, the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Ouvida is the scene of a significant pilgrimage. This religious and popular event includes the celebration of an outdoor mass, a novena, and a procession, gathering many participants. Simultaneously, one of the region's largest annual fairs takes place, where tradition is felt through food stalls and various entertainments, such as the unique oxen fights and improvised folk singing, which provide a festive and authentic atmosphere.
