It is located about 6 km from the centre of Armamar, in a quiet rural area, surrounded by vineyards and typical regional vegetation. Access is via narrow and winding roads, characteristic of the Douro interior region.
It is reached via the municipal road CM1101, which connects to the EN313. The journey is pleasant, although winding, but this is part of the region's charm.
Visiting this bridge is like stepping back in time. The place invites contemplation and a peaceful break far from the hustle and bustle. It is ideal for those who enjoy nature, heritage, and less touristy spots.
The site is thought to have had a bridge since Roman times. The current structure was built in the Middle Ages, serving for centuries as a crossing point between neighbouring villages.
- In the 17th century, restoration work was carried out.
- In the 19th century, stone side guards (parapets) were added.
- In the mid-20th century, it was adapted for vehicle traffic, but it regained its traditional appearance in the 1980s with Portuguese cobblestone paving.
It has two stone arches with cutwaters and parapets made of vertical granite blocks. The deck is paved with granite slabs. It is a simple construction, yet full of character, set within an authentic landscape.
The name of the River Tedo may come from a Christian warrior from the Reconquista period. Near the bridge, there are also some Manueline markers, indicating the historical importance of the area.
