A Baroque Architectural Legacy

Built in the first half of the 18th century, Casa de Treixedo is a remarkable example of the Baroque style. Its main façade, facing west, showcases the grandeur of the noble architecture of the era, featuring two well-defined floors and, on one side, a three-story wing. The richness of the granite details is visible in the ornate windows, adorned with aprons and triangular pediments. One of the most distinctive elements are the two coats of arms that decorate the entrances, bearing witness to the lineage of the families who lived there and contributed to the building's history.

Histories of Noble Families

This manor house was originally commissioned by the Almeida Cardoso Cerqueira family, a lineage with deep roots in the history of the Viseu region. In the second half of the 19th century, the property was passed down by inheritance to the Queiroz de Ataíde family. It was through the marriage of one of the manor's heiresses to the first Viscount of Treixedo that the building became permanently associated with this noble title, giving it an identity that endures to this day. The house, therefore, holds the memories and the evolution of several generations of prominent figures.

A Preserved Heritage

Recognized for its historical and architectural value, Casa de Treixedo was classified as a Building of Public Interest in 1978, ensuring its preservation as an integral part of Portugal's heritage. In the 1980s, the building underwent renovation works to house a banking institution. This transformation, although it altered part of its original interior, allowed the exterior structure to remain a visible landmark of Viseu's noble history, preserving its grandeur for those who walk through Largo António José de Almeida.
