Casa de Quintela is situated in the village of Quintela de Azurara, in the municipality of Mangualde, nestled within the landscape of Beira Alta. The property, delimited by a wall, spans a vast area, and its historical importance is so deeply rooted that it gave rise to the village of Quintela itself.
The main access to the property is through an imposing gate, featuring the coats of arms of the Morais and Pintos families, elements that evoke the noble lineage and history that mark this place.
Casa de Quintela represents a remarkable example of Portuguese stately architecture, with traces dating back to the medieval era. The current building, although the result of significant reconstructions in the 16th and 18th centuries, visibly preserves the marks of its successive construction phases, bearing witness to centuries of history.
Classified as a Property of Public Interest, the house features a rectangular plan with two floors and is built entirely of stone. Its stonework reveals details of earlier structures, such as references to a former tower and a loggia. Inside, a spacious medieval stone terrace invites reflection on the manor's temporal dimension. Complementing the architectural complex, the private Baroque-style chapel houses a mural of rare beautiful tiles.
Surrounding Casa de Quintela, boxwood gardens extend, providing a serene and inviting atmosphere. A long avenue winds through the property, and one of the points of interest is the 18th-century fountain, which is still fed today by an old underground water mine, an ingenious hydraulic solution from past times.
Within the property, one can find a workshop dedicated to the manual crafting of furniture. This artisanal activity perpetuates the art of carpentry, creating pieces inspired by classical and Gothic styles, which underscores the value of tradition and Casa de Quintela's connection to the material and cultural history of the region.
