The Rio Pavia Linear Park stretches along the Pavia River, in the São José neighborhood, in Viseu, seamlessly integrating into the city's urban fabric. It serves as a green corridor that follows the river's course, providing a natural and peaceful environment just a few steps from the city center. Its extension connects different points of Viseu through a pleasant and accessible route.
Covering an area of about seven hectares and extending for over a kilometer, the Rio Pavia Linear Park offers a continuous green expanse along the riverbanks. It is a place where nature and the urban environment meet, providing resting areas, landscaped spaces, and shaded spots, ideal for a relaxing break or for enjoying the river's natural landscape.
The park features paved paths that invite walks and bike rides, extending along both banks of the Pavia River. The route is mostly flat, making it easy for everyone to use. Along the way, various metallic bridges allow crossing the river, offering different perspectives on the water and riparian vegetation and facilitating the exploration of the entire space.
While exploring the Rio Pavia Linear Park, it is possible to observe elements that tell part of the local history. At its ends, the route connects to points of interest with heritage value, such as the old Balsa Mills, which now house the Environmental Monitoring and Interpretation Center, and the site of the former Ribeira Coal Power Plant, responsible for lighting Viseu at the beginning of the last century. Additionally, a sculpture, the Habitable Pictographic Element, punctuates the path, adding an artistic dimension to the park's natural environment.
