The Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Saúde is located in Fonte Arcada, in the area known as Bairro de São Martinho, in the municipality of Sernancelhe. This location is situated on the left bank of the Távora River, offering visitors a view of the natural surroundings. From the viewpoint associated with the sanctuary, one can see the course of the Távora River and, in the background, the Vilar dam, placing the space within a context of rural and riverside landscape.
Nossa Senhora da Saúde is a center of profound faith, recognized as one of the largest celebrations in the municipality of Sernancelhe and a reference point in the Diocese of Lamego. Over the years, this sanctuary has attracted many pilgrims seeking its intercession, whether to ask for help in times of need or to fulfill vows made. The construction of the chapel, dating back to the XVIII century, reflects the antiquity and importance of this place for the community and visitors.
The pilgrimage of Nossa Senhora da Saúde is particularly renowned for its procession, an event that preserves the essence of centuries-old traditions. Originally, the floats were transported by ox carts, accompanied by the sound of drums from the Zés-Pereira and musical bands, on a journey from the church to the chapel. Although today some floats are carried by tractors, the tradition remains alive, with the presence of bombos (drums) and musical bands, and the float of Nossa Senhora da Saúde continues to be carried on shoulders, symbolizing devotion and effort. The committed participation of children and young people from the village is a notable characteristic, ensuring the continuity of this cultural practice. A fair accompanies the celebrations, enlivening the avenue parallel to the chapel and adding a festive atmosphere to the pilgrimage, which sometimes extends to the following Sunday, becoming a true people's festival.
