The Lalim Pillory is located in the town of Lalim, which is part of the municipality of Lamego. Dating from the 16th century, the Lalim Pillory is an important symbol of the history of this locality. Its construction is associated with the period when Lalim received a new charter, granted by King Manuel I in 1514. These royal documents were fundamental for the administrative and judicial organization of the lands, and the existence of a pillory was the visible sign that Lalim possessed municipal autonomy and the right to apply its own justice. It thus served as a landmark of authority and a central point for public acts and judicial decisions of the time.
Built entirely in granite stonework, the Lalim Pillory exhibits a sober yet expressive aesthetic. It rests on a quadrangular stepped base, which elevates its main structure. The column that rises is of quadrangular section, but with chamfered edges, giving it a transition to an almost octagonal shape. At the top, the column widens before culminating in an elegant pyramidal finial. Around the lower platform, one can notice the presence of four stone blocks, often popularly referred to as "frades" (friars), which historically protected the monument and delimited its space. Its form and the materials used are characteristic of the Manueline architecture of its time.
