The Lamas Penedo Inscription is located in Moledo, in the municipality of Castro Daire, in the district of Viseu, Portugal.
It is an epigraphic inscription engraved on a large rock in Lamas de Moledo.
The writing is in Roman and Lusitanian style, and the inscription is vertical, from top to bottom, unlike the usual left to right.
The inscription probably dates back to the pre-Roman period and possibly refers to a divinity of that time.
This inscription has a special status, being classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1953.
The rock is a massive stone almost 2 meters high and has an almost circular shape.
Currently, it is protected under a roof.
In local tradition, there was a belief that whoever could decipher what was written on the rock would find a lot of gold inside it.
This legend contributes to the mystery and interest surrounding the inscription.
Unfortunately, the inscriptions are disappearing due to erosion, which highlights the importance of protecting this historical heritage.
