The Tondela Parish Church is located in the heart of Tondela, integrated into the Union of Parishes of Tondela and Nandufe. Its central position in Largo de Santana gives it a prominent role in the city's urban landscape, making it an easily identifiable landmark for visitors.
The history of the Tondela Parish Church dates back to the late 19th century. In 1879, the process of acquiring land in Largo de Santana, intended for the construction of the new Mother Church, began. This initial step was crucial for erecting the temple on the site where it stands today, thus marking the beginning of its existence as a central element of the Tondela community.
The Tondela Parish Church building stands out for its neo-Gothic style, which reflects the architectural trends of its construction period. Inside, the space is characterized by a single nave, culminating in a crossing arch and altars adorned with carved woodwork.
Externally, one of its most notable elements is the main staircase. With twelve curvilinear steps, this staircase is composed of three circular arches, skillfully worked with fine pick and with edges meticulously finished with a chisel. The masonry is constructed of granite, and both the railings and the wall coping feature well-dressed stonework, with the same precision in finishing, underscoring the quality of the work.
