The Mother Church of Tões is serenely integrated into the small locality of Tões, which is part of the municipality of Armamar. Situated in Largo do Eirô, the church occupies a central point in the village, providing a tranquil and easily accessible environment for visitors, within the context of a characteristic rural landscape.
This temple of worship presents a fusion of architectural influences, with features of Mannerist and Baroque styles. Its design follows a longitudinal plan, typical of parish churches, and its structure is composed of a main nave, a chancel, a side chapel, and a baptistery. The building also includes a sacristy and is topped by a bell tower that rises, marking its presence in the village.
One of the most striking elements of the Mother Church of Tões is its remarkable sacred art, particularly visible in the gilded woodwork that adorns its altars. The main altar, in particular, stands out for its grandeur and intricate details, representing a beautiful example of the artistic expressiveness of the period in which it was conceived. This meticulous carving work imparts a unique light and richness to the temple's interior, inviting contemplation of its valuable artistic heritage.
