The Mother Church of Aldeia de Nacomba stands in the tranquility of the small village of Aldeia de Nacomba, nestled in the Carapito area, in the municipality of Moimenta da Beira. This temple marks the urban landscape of the village, giving it a notable presence and a point of reference for those who travel the streets of this area of Moimenta da Beira.
Situated in a serene environment, the church naturally integrates into the community's life, inviting a moment to observe its architecture and the typical surroundings of a Beira village.
The Mother Church of Aldeia de Nacomba dates back to the 17th and early 18th centuries, showcasing a style that aligns with the Baroque. Its facade stands out with its white plaster, which contrasts with the granite masonry used in the openings and decorative elements. The frontispiece, with its lowered rectangular portal, is topped by an undulating pediment, and beneath it, a semicircular oculus adorned with volutes and protected by a grille can be observed.
Details such as the 'flames' adorning the pilasters and the trefoil-armed cross that crowns the vertex of the cornice on a plinth, enrich its architectural reading. Adjoined to the right side, the bell tower, with its perfect round arch resting on pilasters, completes the building's silhouette.
Inside the church, the main altar draws attention with the profusion of gilded carved wood that covers it, highlighting spiral-shafted columns, characteristic of the Baroque period. The ceiling, a work of art in itself, is composed of meticulously painted coffers, displaying figures of the apostles.
In the sacristy, visitors can also observe items of historical and cultural value, such as a thurible and a navette, both dating from the 17th century. Among the most unique objects is a 15th-century Ançã stone image, which, despite having broken feet and being headless, still holds a brass cross, testifying to its long history.
