Situated in the picturesque locality of Adorigo, in the municipality of Tabuaço, the Mother Church is located in a position that allows visitors to appreciate the surrounding landscape. Its churchyard, in particular, functions as a natural observation point, offering an unobstructed view over the valleys that stretch to the east. It is possible to contemplate the extensive vineyard terraces and olive groves that shape the terrain, where the schist of the slopes shines under the sun or gains a deeper tone after the rain, revealing the essence of the Douro landscape.
The Mother Church of Adorigo, consecrated to Our Lady of Conduzende, is a building that bears witness to the passage of time, blending its origins with more recent interventions. Although the temple was remodelled and reinaugurated in 1984, this modernisation was designed to preserve the richness of its past. The current structure harmoniously integrates the old chancel, a fundamental element of the original construction, creating a continuity between the different eras that mark its existence.
Upon entering the Mother Church of Adorigo, the eye is guided by the artistic elements that adorn the space. In the chancel, a Baroque altarpiece stands out, captivating attention with its ornamentation, and a meticulously crafted coffered ceiling. In the chancel arch, which connects the nave to the chancel, there are two collateral altarpieces, also in Baroque carving, which add a touch of refinement to the ensemble. In the nave, two other side altarpieces display distinct styles: one of Mannerist character and another Joanine Baroque, with its characteristic gilded carving in niches on the walls. The baptismal fonts and the bell tower, even having been reconstructed, maintain their original Mannerist design, contributing to the stylistic coherence of the temple's interior.
