The Church of Valença do Douro is located in the Village area, in the heart of the locality of Valença do Douro, integrated into the municipality of Tabuaço. Its position, at an altitude of approximately 350 meters, provides a unique setting in the vast and scenic Alto Douro valley. The church's presence stands out in the landscape, offering a visual reference point in this territory marked by natural beauty and the characteristic Douro terraces.
This religious building features 20th-century architecture, revealing typical traits of the period. Its design is based on a longitudinal plan that structures a single interior space. Externally, the church is easily recognizable by its bell tower, a traditional element that rises above the construction, asserting its importance and visibility in the village.
Upon entering the church, visitors observe a choir-loft, positioned above the entrance. On the Epistle side, one finds the baptistery, a space designated for baptism rituals. The altar, in turn, is composed of a simple altar stone, which invites contemplation and highlights the spiritual purpose of the place. The interior ensemble reflects simplicity and functionality, characteristics that define the atmosphere of this place of worship.
