The Church of Lamosa stands in the locality of the same name, in Sernancelhe, positioned on a higher point. The village of Lamosa is nestled in a landscape of plateaus, between the Lapa and Nave mountain ranges. This elevation grants the site a panoramic view that stretches across vast horizons, allowing one to contemplate the breadth of the region. Outside, near the church, there is a traditional threshing floor historically used by the community for drying cereals, a glimpse into the rural life that characterizes the surroundings.
This church is a relatively recent construction, having been inaugurated in 1959. Its construction arose from the need to replace the previous temple, which proved to be too small for the community. Next to the church, there is a calvary, a landmark that indicates the place where, in earlier times, the village cemetery was located, preserving a part of its history and memory.
The temple is dedicated to Our Lady of the Emigrants. This patron saint reflects a relevant aspect of Portuguese culture and history, marking the strong connection of the community to its members who departed for other lands. The choice of the patroness for this site in Lamosa gives the church a particular significance, which resonates with the experience of many families in the region and throughout the country.
