The Church of Fataunços is located in the village of Crescido, an integral part of the locality of Fataunços, in the municipality of Vouzela. Situated a short distance from the municipal seat, this church is set in an environment that invites landscape observation. Its position allows for contemplation, to the west, of the expanse of the Ribamá Valley, and in particular, offers a glimpse of the silhouette of Monte da Senhora do Castelo, especially notable at the end of the day.
This temple has its roots in a long-standing Christian community, originally established in Fataunços and known as São Miguel da Folgosa. The presence of vestiges of the primitive Church of Folgosa, dating from medieval times, has been confirmed in the surrounding area. Some of these discoveries, such as worked stones and sculpted Romanesque crosses, have been carefully collected and are now displayed in a small garden next to the current church, offering tangible testimony of its past.
The Church of Fataunços acquired its current form and dimensions after significant expansion and restoration works that took place in the 18th century. Inside, the presence of gilded carving stands out, a distinctive artistic element of the period. Among the ensemble, the main altar merits special attention, standing out as a piece of unique value and beauty. This altar features an arch and a tribune, crowned by royal arms and flanked by five angel figures, a detail that evokes the period when the church was under Royal Patronage.
