Location

The Church of Aldeia de Nacomba is situated in the peaceful village of the same name, part of the union of parishes of Arcozelos, in the municipality of Moimenta da Beira. Aldeia de Nacomba is nestled on the slopes of the Serra de Nacomba, a position that affords it extensive views and a naturally captivating atmosphere. The surrounding landscape, shaped by the winds descending from Marão in winter, offers unique characteristics reflected in the local flora and singular atmosphere.

Baroque Testimony

Dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, the Church of Aldeia de Nacomba is a notable example of Baroque architecture in the region. Its structure features white plastered facades, contrasting with the granite stonework elements that frame openings and ornaments. The frontispiece is distinguished by a recessed rectangular framed portal, crowned by an undulating pediment, beneath which a grilled semicircular oculus, adorned with volutes, can be seen. One can also notice the flaming urns that adorn the pilasters and the cross with trilobed ends that rises at the apex of the cornice. Attached on the right side, the bell tower announces itself with a round arch, resting on pilasters.

Interior Treasures

Upon crossing the portal, the church's interior reveals an environment of great artistic richness. The main altar immediately catches the eye, covered in elaborate gilded carving and flanked by columns with spiral shafts. The ceiling of the chancel is composed of coffers, each painted with figures representing the apostles, lending a particular beauty to the space. In the sacristy, the church's heritage continues to surprise with ancient pieces: a thurible and a navicula, both from the 17th century, and an Ançã stone image, dating from the 15th century, which, despite having broken feet and missing head, still carries a brass cross, a detail that evokes its long history.
