The Lamego Fountain is located in a central area of the city, in the urban zone of Almacave. It is situated in front of the Republic Garden, a frequent meeting and passing point for those exploring the locality. Its position gives it prominent visibility within the urban fabric, integrating harmoniously into Lamego's landscape.

A Historical Legacy

This monumental fountain was erected in 1830. Its history is marked by a change of location: it was initially built inside the former Campo do Tablado, which is now the Republic Garden. However, due to expansion and reorganization works of this garden, the fountain was carefully dismantled in 1923 and, a year later, in 1924, reinstalled in its current site. This trajectory reflects the evolution of the city's public space over time.

Architectural and Symbolic Details

Built entirely of granite, the Lamego Fountain stands out for its imposing architecture. It is characterized by a wide double staircase, which flanks the tank where water collects, and which allows access to the spouts. At the top of the ensemble, a statue representing an armed warrior stands. This sculptural element is particularly significant, as the shield the warrior wields displays the coat of arms of the city of Lamego, giving the fountain a symbolic value of strong identification with the locality.
