The Anta 1 da Lameira do Fojo is located in the quiet urbanization of Lobagueira, in the town of Coutos de Viseu, municipality of Viseu. This megalithic monument is set in a predominantly rural and scenic environment, artificially raised above the surrounding terrain. Its setting is marked by the serenity of a forest area, where maritime pines and oak trees predominate, offering a natural scenery that invites reflection and the observation of heritage.
Dating from the Megalithic Age, between 2900 BC and 2640 BC, the Anta 1 da Lameira do Fojo stands as a tangible link to the communities that inhabited these lands millennia ago. Originally built for funerary purposes, it served as a collective burial site, bearing witness to the rituals and beliefs of our ancestors. Today, it remains an important historical-cultural landmark, classified as a Property of Public Interest, inviting a journey back in time to uncover its ancestral secrets.
This dolmen is notable for its architectural design, consisting of a polygonal chamber and a well-developed corridor. The chamber, about 3.80 meters in diameter and 2 meters high, is formed by granite pillars, some still standing and others fallen or broken by time, which tell the story of its durability. The corridor, approximately 7 meters long, has seven pillars on each side and was originally covered, leading to an immersive experience in the monumentality of these prehistoric structures.
The site where the Anta 1 da Lameira do Fojo stands is, in itself, an invitation to contemplation. Set in a predominantly rural and forested landscape, the presence of maritime pines and oak trees gives the environment a peculiar serenity. Raised above the surrounding terrain, the dolmen offers a tranquil view of the surrounding nature, which has remained almost unchanged since the time of its construction. This natural setting, punctuated by silence, allows the visitor a deep immersion in the past, feeling the connection between the grandeur of human work and the immutability of the landscape that has hosted it for millennia.
