Adriano's Castle stands in the locality of Carregal, part of the Lapa area, in the municipality of Sernancelhe. Its unique silhouette is easily discernible to those travelling on the road that crosses this area. Its striking presence lends a peculiar atmosphere to its surroundings, standing out unexpectedly in the region's rural landscape.
This singular building is the culmination of a personal dream and a life project, entirely conceived and built by one man, Adriano dos Santos. Born in the vicinity of Moimenta da Beira and settled in Carregal, Adriano cultivated from a young age a deep passion for castles and medieval architecture. This fascination led him to dedicate himself, stone by stone, to the construction of his own fortress, a remarkable testament to individual will.
Adriano's Castle presents itself with all the characteristics of a fortified construction. One can observe its distinct towers and pinnacles, flanked by battlements and turrets that make up its structure. A robust wall surrounds the main building, extending through the gardens that enclose the residence of Adriano and his family. The construction has developed over about twenty years, in a continuous process that has shaped this complex known as "Retiro do Sossego".
This castle is not merely a construction; it is a symbol of perseverance and dedication. The work has been carefully erected by Adriano Santos and his children, a family effort that has transformed a vision into reality. Its unusual presence has captured the curiosity of many who pass by and stop to admire the realization of such a grand dream. Adriano's Castle thus represents a genuine manifestation of human creativity and willpower.
