This section of Roman pavement is located in the peaceful locality of Paranho de Besteiros, part of the Union of Parishes of Caparrosa and Silvares, in the municipality of Tondela. It is situated in a predominantly rural environment, halfway up a slope, and is partially flanked by old walls, with the surrounding landscape marked by vegetation. Its position provides a tranquil atmosphere, ideal for a moment of reflection.
The route in Paranho de Besteiros represents a remarkable example of Roman engineering, built in granite during the imperial era. This ancient road was designed for transport and communication, playing a crucial role in the road network that connected various regions of Lusitania. It is a historical-cultural landmark that invites a journey through time, allowing a close observation of the durability and mastery of the constructions of that millenary civilization.
This segment of Roman pavement extends for approximately 130 meters and has an average width of 3.5 meters, maintaining a predominantly straight alignment. Its extremities are marked by imposing granite slabs, and its structure is composed of stones of varied dimensions, which remain in a relatively good state of preservation. Currently, this pavement still serves as a rural path, integrating a connection between Paranho de Besteiros and other nearby areas, demonstrating its remarkable persistence throughout the centuries. Its historical importance is recognized through its classification as a Property of Municipal Interest.
