The Alagoa rock art station is located in the tranquil village of Alagoa, part of the Union of Parishes of Barreiro de Besteiros and Tourigo, within the municipality of Tondela. This archaeological site offers direct contact with a piece of the region's ancestral history, in a setting that invites observation and reflection.
This archaeological site is notable for the presence of eight carefully engraved rocks, which reveal the artistic expression of prehistoric communities. On these rock panels, visitors can observe a variety of motifs, such as podomorphs, representations of human footprints –, small indentations known as cup marks, and also circles and semicircles, among others. The collection comprises close to a hundred drawings, some of which overlap, attesting to the continuity of use and creation at this site over time.
The main technique used to create these engravings was pecking. This ancestral method involved the use of a percussor to sculpt the rocks, leaving visible marks that, even today, allow us to imagine the work and skill of the ancient peoples who inhabited this area. Observing these engravings is a journey back in time, allowing one to contemplate the legacy of a civilization that left its mark on the stones of Alagoa, revealing aspects of their life and symbolism.
