The construction of this pillory, dating from the 18th century, is intrinsically linked to the administrative history of Abrunhosa-a-Velha. It was erected in 1762, marking a period when the locality obtained its municipal autonomy, detaching itself from the old municipality of Tavares. At the time, it represented the materialization of the new privileges and self-jurisdiction granted to it. However, this independence did not last long, as the liberal reforms of 1836 extinguished the municipality, and later, in 1853, the municipality of Tavares itself was integrated into that of Mangualde.
This pillory is notable for its granite structure and its characteristic elements. It rests on a base composed of four octagonal steps, giving it a distinct elevation. The shaft, also octagonal, rises with sobriety, topped by a molding that precedes its upper extremity. The top culminates in an eight-faced pyramid, which crowns the ensemble and contributes to its unique silhouette.
