The Chapel of São Frutuoso is located in Secerigo, Boticas municipality, in an area that evokes rural tranquility. It is surrounded by a walled churchyard and is strategically positioned on the eastern part of the village's oldest settlement core. Its location offers a perspective on the traditional layout of the locality and its surrounding landscape.
The building has a rectangular shape, with its main façade, featuring a simple, rectangular doorway, facing northeast. Extending from the front wall, a bell gable rises, culminating in a cross, a distinctive element of its silhouette within the village ensemble.
Upon entering, attention is drawn to the altar, situated in the central part of the chancel. It is made of wood with a marble-effect finish and features protruding shelves, known as corbels, which support religious figures representing local faith and traditions, illustrating the region's popular devotional art.
This site plays a central role in the traditions of the Secerigo community. It is here that the Mass of the Saint Fructuosus Festival is celebrated annually during the month of April. This event is a moment of unity and manifestation of popular devotion, highlighting the chapel's importance in the village's social and religious life.
