The Chapel of São Silvestre is located at the highest point of the Pinheiro Manso neighborhood, in the locality and municipality of Mesão Frio. Situated at approximately 520 meters above sea level, it dominates the surrounding landscape, offering a privileged perspective over the Douro Valley and the town of Mesão Frio.

The location, with its rural and isolated environment, is surrounded by a pine forest and features a stone platform that functions as a viewpoint, with vistas extending over several villages and the Douro River. The Chapel of São Silvestre was likely built between the 17th and 18th centuries, representing a testament to the popular religious architecture of the time. Throughout the centuries, its importance to local communities was evident, with records of disputes over its management, underscoring the value attributed to it.

This building has maintained its religious function over time. In the 20th century, conservation and restoration interventions were carried out, with the placement of a new altar in 1984 and the replacement of the doors in 1996, with the aim of preserving the space.

The Chapel of São Silvestre is an example of vernacular architecture, characterized by its simplicity and integration into the landscape. It features a rectangular, single-body plan, with plastered and white-painted walls, highlighted by a granite base.

The interior, a singular and harmonious space, stands out for its curved, painted wooden ceiling. There is also an upper choir, accessible by a wooden staircase, and a pulpit. The main altarpiece, made of varnished wood, is a notable element, adorned with canopies and elegant columns, which lend a distinctive character to the ensemble.
