The Capela do Senhor (Chapel of the Lord) is located in the area known as Sítio do Senhor, in Vila Pouca de Aguiar, municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar. It is situated in an urban environment, yet possesses a unique presence, isolated on a slightly inclined plane. Its main tower rises on an elevated platform, accessible by steps, giving it a visual prominence in the surrounding area of cobblestone streets.
Dating mainly from the 19th century, with its tower clock added in early 20th century, in 1910, the Capela do Senhor reflects 19th-century religious architecture. It features a longitudinal plan and robust granite masonry construction, with joints painted white, a detail that enhances its structure. It comprises a square tower that functions as a galilee, a nave, and a rectangular chancel, slightly lower and narrower than the nave, with a sacristy annexed to its left side.
The chapel's main facade, facing west, is marked by a three-tiered bell tower. The lower tier invites entry through three perfect round arches, forming a galilee with a low, ornamented vault. Above the central arch, an elaborate cartouche, with acanthus and volutes, adds an artistic touch. In the tower's intermediate tier, a framed clock stands out, and the crowning is achieved by a balustrade with pinnacles and a molded spire, elements that contribute to its imposing presence.
Upon crossing the main door, one finds an interior divided into distinct spaces, united by a triumphal arch. The nave, with its slab pavement, displays white plastered walls and an industrial tile wainscot with a geometric pattern. The ceilings are in a paneled stucco false vault, painted white with brown moldings. The choir loft, made of wood, offers a view over the nave, while the pulpit, ornamented with acanthus and volutes, features white lacquered wooden railings with golden rosettes, highlighting the richness of the details.
Inside the chapel, the triumphal arch separating the nave from the chancel displays the date 1889, an important milestone in its construction. Flanking it, two side altarpieces, in white and blue carving with golden ornamentation, introduce the neoclassical style. The chancel, with its stucco false vault ceiling, is adorned with eucharistic symbols, painted in shades of gray, beige, and green. The main altarpiece, in polychrome carving, features a central panel representing the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, complemented by sculptural images in the side bodies, underlining the religious and artistic character of the space.
